VIDEO: Taskforce dislodges roadside traders, destroys shanties in Lagos

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, in an enforcement operation, has clamped down on illegal roadside traders and shanties built on drainages in the FESTAC town area of the state.

This was disclosed in a statement and video shared on X.com by the Lagos State Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Monday.

According to the statement, the operation is part of the ongoing effort to maintain law and order in the state thereby correcting environmental degradation.

The statement read, “As part of the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the state, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources through the operatives of #LAGESCOfficial earlier today conducted an enforcement operation at 21 Road, 211 Junction, FESTAC town, dislodging illegal roadside traders and removing shanties built on the drainage and roadside thereby causing environmental nuisance on the road.”
PUNCH Online reported earlier this month that the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has continued the removal of structures obstructing drainage channels in the state to tackle flooding.

PUNCH reported in August that structures built on the System 157 drainage channel along Orchid Road in the Eti-Osa area of the state were similarly demolished.
The Lagos State Government also emphasised there is no going back on the enforcement and restoration of right-of-way for all drainage channels in the state.
